National Preparedness Month - Make a Plan
10/25/2024 (Permalink)
National Preparedness Month (NPM) is an observance each September to raise awareness about the importance of preparing for disasters and emergencies that could happen at any time. The 2023 theme is “Prepare to Protect. Preparing for disasters is protecting everyone you love.”
Talk to your friends and family about how you will communicate before, during, and after a disaster. Make sure to update your plan based on the CDC recommendations due to the Coronavirus.
Make A Plan
- How will I receive emergency alerts and warnings?
- What is my shelter plan?
- What is my evacuation route?
- What is my family/household communication plan?
- Do I need to update my emergency preparedness kit?
- Check with the Centers for Disease Control (CDC)and update my emergency plans due to Coronavirus.
- Get masks (for everyone over 2 years old), disinfectants, and check my sheltering plan.
As you prepare your plan tailor your plans and supplies to your specific daily living needs and responsibilities. Discuss your needs and responsibilities and how people in the network can assist each other with communication, care of children, business, pets or specific needs like operating medical equipment. Create your own personal network for specific areas where you need assistance. Keep in mind some these factors when developing your plan:
- Different ages of members within your household
- Responsibilities for assisting others
- Locations frequented
- Dietary needs
- Medical needs including prescriptions and equipment
- Disabilities or access and functional needs including devices and equipment
- Languages spoken
- Cultural and religious considerations
- Pets or service animals
- Households with school-aged children
Download and fill out a family emergency plan or use it as a guide to create your own.

When you are in the middle of a crisis, it can be difficult to make the right decision. If your Temecula home is on fire, the first thing you should do is call 911. If a storm has dropped a power line in front of your office, you would call the power company. These choices are rational, normal choices but whom would you call after the fire is out? Who do you call after the storm ends and you notice the damage is worse than you thought? Maybe you notice the power line actually fell because a tree branch took it down and damaged a part of your home.
You call SERVPRO of Temecula. We are efficient, experienced, and open 24/7. We have a trained team of IICRC certified professionals who can take care of water damage, mold damage, storm damage, fire and smoke damage, and even flood damage. 10/20/2024 (Permalink)
SERVPRO of Temecula is an IICRC firm. The Institute of Inspection, Cleaning and Restoration Certification (IICRC) creates the standards for the restoration industry and provides training and certification to restoration companies. IICRC Certified Firms have the right to display the IICRC Certified Logo.
IICRC Certified Firms must
- Present accurate information to consumers and conduct business with honesty and integrity.
- Require a technician on all jobs who has been formally trained and passed all required tests.
- Require a continuing education program to keep technicians up-to-date on the latest changes in the industry.
- Maintain liability insurance to protect all parties in the event of an accident.
- Maintain a written complaint policy and agree to Better Business Bureau or similar arbitration to resolve disputes, and accept the conclusions and recommendations of arbitration.
The IICRC Develops The Standards For The Restoration Industry
The IICRC has been the driving force in establishing the main industry standards and reference guides for professional carpet cleaning, water damage restoration and mold remediation. These IICRC standards take years to develop and require the coordination of experts in the field: manufacturers, industry organizations, insurance professionals, training schools, contractors, and public health professionals.
Every five years, the standards are reviewed and updated. The water damage restoration field changes rapidly with advancements in technology and science, and therefore the standards must evolve to keep pace.
